Charity 35km walk around Knaresborough, for York Foodbank

Along with 13 other colleagues from YHEC - plus Teal the black lab - we did a walk to raise awarness and sponsorship for York Foodbank. For most of us, the journey started bright and early at York railway station...

The route began from Knaresborough station. A few of us got a few extra steps in before, trying to find a loo.  

Knaresborough is a lovely North Yorkshire town. 

....with its fair share of steps.

We immediately came cross the town's picturesque viaduct. 

The route crossed the River Nidd.

Within 10 minutes we were out into the countryside.

The weather was pretty perfect, 19 to 24 degrees, warm but never too hot, though sun cream was a good idea. It was a good job the deluge of rain forecast held off till the weekend.  

We crossed the trainline a couple of times, the pedestrian alarm was extremely loud!

I'm convinced these people have a special wardrobe in their house.  

We stuck together as a group for most of the walk, only on the [3 mile] home straight did we properly split out.  

It was pretty lush in places.

The route was not busy at all.   We had a few rest stops.  

Comfortable rest stops were few and far between.

Two-thirds (6 hours) of the way round and The Tiger Inn in Coneythorpe was a welcome toilet and patch-up stop as well as water refill station (other libations were also consumed).  

The downside of the heat was where the path narrowed and was overgrown.  

The A59 was the other main obstacle. 

This shot was a happy Sam in his element with sugar sweets. Unfortunately not long after he was attacked by wasps (were they after the sweets?)  

About this point, with a slight incline back towards Knaresborough, we started to slow right down. Mick was keen to press on and not miss his last train back to Settle.   

There were a number of 'well dodgy' bridges and walking boards.

York Foodbank doesn't think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. They provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred in crisis. It is part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
